Developing Healthy Eating Habits
Do you know that eating healthy food makes you a happy and active person? The happier you are the better and more fulfilling your life will be. The good news is that developing healthy eating habits is not tough. You just have to modify your eating habits, stick to a routine, and watch what you eat. Good health promises you the freedom to pursue your aspirations, whereas poor health limits what you can do in life.
Living healthy requires a better diet, proper physical activity and adequate rest. All these can result in better health, a sense of well being, better sleep, sharper mental abilities, and improved physical endurance and strength. Furthermore, your immune system will be stronger, so you will not get sick often.
In general, it is assumed that the less a food is processed the better it is. Processed food, such as pizza, fast food, chips, sweets, convenience food, etc leads to high blood pressure, clogged arteries, heart attacks, diabetes, and liver and kidney problems. It is interesting to note that these diseases were not there hundreds of years ago, which means that recently humans have adopted an eating pattern which is negatively affecting their health.
A healthy diet should include a large portion of food that can be eaten raw, such as fruits and vegetables, and a small portion of meat, yoghurt, cheese, etc. Cooking should be minimal as the process can destroy the essential nutrients in the food.
Eat what is adequate, do not over eat. With the availability of canned and convenience food, people have started indulging in overeating. Previously, when people had to fetch their own food, they would eat less. Plus, that food was high in nutrition whereas the one eaten these days is only high in calories. By cutting down your calories significantly, you will be able to lower your susceptibility to diseases and prolong your life by 50%.
Make a list and note what you are eating and in what portion. Circle the foods that are contributing to your weight gain, and you know that you should not be eating them. Gradually, eliminate them from your grocery list, and replace them with healthy substitutes which you like. Apply the same methods to your beverages - replace fizzy drinks with a lot of water and fresh fruit juices. Make sure that you work out a list which combines foods that are healthy but not your favorites, and those which are unhealthy yet dear to you and your taste buds. Keep this list with you at all times and follow it daily. However, don't be too strict on yourself or you will lose the urge to develop healthy eating habits.
The transition to healthy eating habits should be at a moderate pace so that you don't get bored and abandon it without accomplishing any results. Keep a positive attitude, and encourage yourself for each step that you take in the direction of healthy eating. Experimenting with a variety of foods will make it a fun event for you. Initially, you may feel the lack of motivation or hesitation, yet remember that what you are feeling is quite normal. Take a deep breath and think about the positive impact it is going to have on your life. Happy eating!
