The senior population is growing as we speak and as we age there are a lot of health problems that could arise. If we learn early about the way aging is affecting our body and the various systems in our body then this will help us to be able fight the different things that change our body. You can take control of your health and help yourself stay young longer by doing so.

In order to take care of your health properly you need to learn about the aging signs. Some of the first and more obvious signs that things are beginning to change in your body is not much past 40 years of age. One sure fire way to know things are changing is that when you go to read something with small print, you have trouble reading it. And believe it or not, the print isn't smaller than it was a few years ago, it's one of the first signs that your eyes are beginning to age.

The first signs of gray hair or things like crows feet and laugh lines are yet another outward way that our body is sending us signals that we are beginning to age. Our muscle tone will begin to lessen, there might be changes in the color of our skin. These are signs that we physically see on a daily basis.

What's important here is that you should learn about the things that are not as obvious that also help the aging process along. These are the changes that take place inside of your body. One of the main systems that will undergo major changes will be your immune system. It will start to lose the ability to fight off diseases. Your pituitary gland is also going to change immensely.

This gland is responsible for producing growth hormones and it's functions changes all through life as we get older. When we are kids these hormones help to keep us growing. As we mature the changes will go through the stages of puberty.

Once we reach adulthood this gland then serves as a maintenance device that works all through our adult lives, but as we get older it's functions will decrease and this is what causes the muscles of our bodies to lose their tone. We also begin to lose ions of calcium from our bones and our joints and this is due to the decrease in the glands functioning.

This will cause not only joint pain but loss of bone density. Sometimes the pituitary gland can also cause senility and loss of memory.

If you are entering the stage of "middle age" if you have not yet accepted the fact that the aging process is catching up to you, it is time that you accept it and learn how to be in charge of your health and there are a variety of different things you can do to take control.

Educate yourself. Learn all that you can about what aging is and what kind of a lifestyle will help you cope with aging gracefully. You need to understand that nutrition is and always has been a sound foundation for good health. Find out what the essentials are for eating healthier and make those changes in your diet.

Get started in an exercise routine. It doesn't matter what kind of exercise it is, as long as you make it something you try and do on a daily basis, your body is going to love you for it.

Make sure that you have a good doctor that will be able to help you manage your health and be there to give you advice and to refer you to any specialists you might need in the future. Make sure you have your eyes examined on a yearly basis to avoid missing any serious problems. Women need to make sure they go in and have a yearly mammogram after the age of 50 as well as both men and women should get colonoscopies to check for colon changes or polyps.

When your body begins to start showing the tell tell signs of aging, you need to realize that you need to give your body more of a boost to get it going so make sure that you give your body the diet, exercise and care it needs to help you enjoy a long life.
